Theory Test

This is the first stage in gaining your full driving licence. This test is spilt into 2 halves, part 1 being 50 multiple choice questions and part 2 being a Hazard Perception Test, if you fail one part you will have to retake both parts. On this page we will talk about the multiple choice part of the test, for more information on the hazard perception test please click on the HPT page.

The multiple choice questions are taken first, you will get 57 minutes to answer the questions, you need to get at least 43 questions correct in order to pass the multiple choice part. Your questions will appear one at a time with several answers of which you will need to select one, however some questions may require you to select more than one answer. If you are unsure of any of the answers you can flag that question and return to it at the end. The test covers a variety of topics including, road & traffic signs, first aid, the law, road procedure and Vehicle licensing requirements, please find some example questions below. Helpful literature such as the 'Highway code' can be obtained through your instructor, also they can supply you with endless mock test papers to take away, complete and return and then they will go over the answers with you. During your driving lessons your instructor will incorporate into it discussions, practical examples and questions relating to the theory topics covered in the test. If you ever have any worries, concerns or special requirements over the theory test please speak to your instructor in complete confidence who will be more than happy to assist you.
The theory test must be passed before you are able to book a practical test but you may start your lessons before taking and passing it.
